Washington’s legislative special session ended today without enough support for MMJ bills HB2118 or SB5955. Washington State’s current Medical Marijuana laws now fall back on Gov. Gregoire’s gutted version of SB5073. This leaves MMJ dispensaries without legal recognition and more vulnerable to prosecution. Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles was the backbone of the new MMJ proposals, but their failure to gain enough support in committee represents, in her words “the greatest disappointment of my legislative career.” The full history of the SB5073 can be viewed here.
